(Virtual) Women in Policy and Politics

A century after the fight for women’s suffrage, join us for a fascinating conversation with women who are now making their mark in the field of politics, community, and public policy in Sonoma County. This program will be the culmination of the Museum's exhibition, From Suffrage to #MeToo: Groundbreaking Women in Sonoma County, bringing the conversation about women's fight for inclusion up to the present, at a time of challenges both old and new.

Esther Lemus, Natalie Rogers, and Suzanne Smith 

Moderated by Dr. Cynthia Boaz 

Esther Lemus

Esther Lemus is a Deputy District Attorney for Sonoma County and was the first Latina ever elected to the Windsor Town Council in 2018.

Natalie Rogers
In her first run for public office, Natalie Rogers won a seat on the Santa Rosa City Council in 2020. The marriage and family therapist is the first Black woman to serve on the City Council and is the Vice Mayor of Santa Rosa.

Suzanne Smith 
Suzanne Smith has been the Executive Director of the Sonoma County Transportation Authority since 1997. Prior to joining the SCTA, Suzanne was the District Director for State Assembly Member Valerie Brown.


Cynthia Boaz, moderator
Dr. Boaz is a professor of Political Science at Sonoma State University. Her expertise is in gender and politics
, nonviolent strategy, civil resistance, quality of democracy, and political communication and media.
